Sida Seminar highlights CHwB's work

"CHwB’s approach to cultural heritage as an avenue for reconciliation and good governance has in many respects broken new ground", says evaluators at a Sida seminar where an evaluation report on CHwB’s work in the Balkans was presented.

The focus of the seminar held last week at Sida, was the role of cultural heritage in conflict-affected and developing countries to strengthen reconciliation processes, democratic governance, participatory municipal development, local economic development, human rights and civil society.

After welcoming remarks by Göran Holmqvist, the head of department for Reform and Selective Cooperation at Sida, the seminar gave an in-depth presentation of the recent evaluation of CHwB’s Sida funded work in the Balkans. CHwB staff from the offices in Sarajevo, Tirana and Pristina further presented projects and answered questions.

"CHwB’s work puts Sida ahead of what other development agencies are doing in regard to their approach to cultural heritage as an avenue for reconciliation and good governance", stated CHwB evaluators Dr. June Taboroff and Cecilia Ljungman whose report has just been released.

The seminar attracted roughly 40 participants mainly from Sida, but also from cultural heritage institutions and organizations as well as the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier this year Sida commissioned an evaluation of CHwB's Sida funded work in the Western Balkans from 2008-2011. After visiting projects, talking to staff and partners, the evaluators conclude that CHwB is a unique organization with several strengths.
