CHwB Kosovo has recently been granted funding for two different projects, but both trying to stimulate and encourage cultural tourism in the country. Read more about the projects here.
CHwB Kosovo implements the project See you in Dukagjin
CHwB was granted by the European Commission to implement the Tourism Development Project See you in Dukagjin.
The overall project objective is to contribute to creating the basis for sustainable development in Kosovo and to contribute to the consolidation of economic regions, creation a regional development framework and supporting economic regeneration, job creation and human resource development in the economic regions. Cultural and natural heritage is seen as the main resource for developing the region Dukagjini in the western part of Kosovo.
Reconciliation and confidence-building between different ethnic groups in Kosovo is also one of the main objectives.
The specific project objective is to establish the cultural tourism business infrastructure (Regional Tourism Centre) that would support tourism SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in starting-up businesses and developing, improving and promoting tourism in the region Dukagjini.
The primary target group of this project are women and men who are or may be connected in any way with the development of tourism: tourism managers, owners of hotels, motels and restaurants, vernacular house owners, cooks, guides, women's organizations, craftsmen, tourism schools and tourism municipal offices. The secondary target groups are NGOs, religious communities, arts groups, environmental organizations and animal protection associations. The tertiary target group consists of organisations involved in supportive services such as transportation, health care, emergency and security.
The period of implementation is Nov 2010-Nov 2012.
CHwB and Swiss Heritage Society working together to preserve the village Dranoc in Kosovo
On 30 October 2010, the managing committee of the Swiss Heritage Society took the formal decision to support the project for the preservation of Kulla’s (traditional dwelling houses) in the village of Dranoc, Kosovo.
The Schweizer Haimatschutz / Swiss Heritage Society is the leading Swiss not-for-profit organisation in the field of architectural heritage and sites. SHS would like to fund a solidarity project abroad to preserve buildings of historic importance, and to encourage people to treat such monuments with care. It is SHS intention to support a specific project and to exchange cultural and scientific knowledge with Kosovo.
SHS will at first provide financial support from their own funds and second, assistance in the search for further sponsors and partners in Switzerland, as well as for specialists in the fields of architecture, environment and tourism, to be seconded to Kosovo in a knowledge transfer scheme.
The project in Dranoc, which aims to preserve one of the Kosovo’s last remaining ensembles of Kullas, is going to be implemented by Cultural Heritage without Borders from 2011 -2013.
