Seminar on the “Development of Maintenance Programs and Plans” GJIROKASTRA, DEC. 8-11, 2009

CHwB organized the 1st Regional Seminar in Albania on the “Development of Maintenance Programs and Plans”, in the World Heritage city of Gjirokastra. This seminar brought together professionals working in the field of cultural heritage across Albania and the Western Balkan Region in local and national institutions, such as Regional Directorates, Institutes of Monuments of Culture, and representatives from the Ministry of Culture.

 

The 7th Meeting of the SEE Heritage Network

The seventh Meeting/workshop of the SEE Heritage Network had as its topic: “Cultural Landscapes and the Implementation of the European Landscape Convention in South East Europe – The Role of NGOs” and it was held from 11th until 14th of October in Novi Sad/Belgrade, Serbia.
The organizers of the event, on behalf of the SEE Heritage Network, were Suburbium and Europa Nostra Serbia. The project was supported by Cultural Heritage without Borders and the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

 

Andreas Ådahl 1938-2009

The Chairman of the Board of Cultural Heritage without Borders, Ambassador Andreas Ådahl, passed away on Saturday 10th of October 2009.

 

Opening of Heritage Surgery

As a part of the overall project "Heritage at Risk: Redefining Cultural Values through the Built Heritage of SE Europe" project implemented between September/October 2008 and 31st July 2010 as part of the European Union Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency Culture Programme (2007 – 2013), the work of the first Heritage Surgery in Gjirokastra will be announced on 27th of September 2009 at 11.00.

 

Inauguration of the project “Gjirokastra 2009-2011 17th of April 2009, Gjirokastra, Albania

Today, Cultural Heritage without Borders has inaugurated the start of the
Project “Gjirokastra 2009-2011” together with its partners in the project:
- Gjirokastra Conservation and Development Organization
(GCDO)
- Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sport
- Institute of Monuments of Culture, Tirana
- Regional Directorate of National Monuments of Gjirokastra and
- Office of Administration and Coordination of City Museum of Gjirokastra

“Gjirokastra was and is through a history a proud city, with a heritage of an extraordinary value, and with people who shared this sense of pride. This project is aimed not only towards restoration of stones, but also towards restoration of Gjirokastra's people sense of pride. The restoration that will step by step hopefully boost the economical development of Gjirokastra is one of the aims of this project”

“We would like to thank to CHwB for the efforts in restoration of cultural heritage of Gjirokastra. Encouraged by the restoration of the Babameto 2nd category monument in the Bazaar of Gjirokastra, now the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sport will invest in restoration of the buildings around Babameto 2nd category building, where by doing that the whole street façade will be completely restored”
